Course overview
There is now a great and unique opportunity for nurses and students to study a named Diabetes degree from one of the leading British Universities in the UK. Successful completion of this nursing degree pathway will result in the awarding of BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies (Diabetes). This means the Bachelor degree in nursing studies majoring in Diabetes.
This course is designed for practicing nurses who have a nursing diploma or nursing bachelor degree but wish to specialize in diabetics nursing. The pathway consists of two 20-credit diabetes modules and a diabetes related dissertation (40-credits) with a further 40 credits chosen from the generic adult BSc Nursing studies bachelor degree route.
Students who complete both diabetes modules and further 20-credits from the adult pathway will be awarded a Certificate of Completion in Diabetics Care.
Course content
Semester 1 (September - January):
Students will take Evidence Based Diabetes Care level 2 and Evidence Based Diabetes Care level 3 (20 credits). This is a taught multidisciplinary module which will require weekly class attendance over a 10 week period. The focus of the module is to update students’ knowledge base of the evidence supporting current diabetes care deliver. In addition students will take Assessment strategy 4000 word case study.
Semester 2 (January - May):
Students will in semester 2 take the module Diabetes Care in Clinical Practice level 2 and Diabetes Care in Clinical Practice level 3 (20 credits). Completion of the evidence based module a pre-requisite to undertaking this module. A practice based module with the primary aim of facilitating integration of the knowledge gained in the evidence based module into clinical practice. Students will also take the Assessment strategy a 4000 word summary of a portfolio of evidence.
